masterThesisResumen:
This work addresses the analysis of the political motivations and ideological aspects of the material author of the mass murder perpetrated on July 22, 2011 on the island of Utøya and the city of Oslo. This terrorist action tore the history of Norwegian democracy in two and set off several alarms in the rest of Europe. The proposed critical approach traces clues that can understand the root causes of the most lethal act of individual terrorism committed on European territory. Beyond the unprecedented character and evident lethality of the massacre, the analysis of the Anders Behring Breivik Manifesto "2083: A Declaration of Independence from Europe" reveals new/specific details about the course of terrorism in the global world. The investigation uses the atypical and unexpected condition of the Norwegian tragedy to establish the critical reassessment and delimitation of terms such as "lone wolf" and "individual terrorism". This work also addresses the dilemmas of European democracies facing the risks of the advance of political extremism and intolerance of difference.
