Resumen:
El arte lowbrow, traducido como arte de bajo
nivel, conocido también como surrealismo pop,
describe un movimiento alternativo que surgió a
f inales de los años 70 en los Estados Unidos. Sus
orígenes están ligados a la cultura pop, los cómics,
la ciencia f icción, la serie B, los dibujos animados,
el grafiti y los videojuegos. El lowbrow, fruto de
todas estas inf luencias, se ha convertido en uno de
los movimientos artísticos más ricos de las últimas
décadas, cruzando fronteras y llegando a países
como España.
La realización de esta investigación se ha
centrado en cubrir un vacío documental en torno
al movimiento artístico lowbrow en España. La
necesidad surgió al observar que la mayoría de la
información sobre este movimiento estaba ubicada
en internet y dentro de los circuitos de arte
underground. Esta falta de estudios académicos
llamó mi atención, viendo necesario e interesante
realizar una investigación que pudiese servir, a su
vez, a otros profesionales del arte y del diseño. La
metodología general se ha centrado en la búsqueda
de fuentes de información y el desarrollo de
un diario de seguimiento fundamental durante
la investigación; planteada de lo general a lo
particular y ordenada por capítulos.
Este proceso de investigación me ha permitido
observar el desarrollo y proyección del surrealismo
pop en España. He podido comprobar que
efectivamente este movimiento está ganando
seguidores cada día, gracias a la labor de las
nuevas galerías e importantes museos que lo
promocionan a través de eventos y ferias. He visto
evidencias claras de que se está creando un público
af icionado al coleccionismo, gracias a la facilidad
para conseguir reproducciones de alta calidad de
estas obras, y que cada vez hay más conocimiento
e interés por este movimiento artístico entre los
diseñadores gráficos.

Lowbrow art, translated as low-level art,
also known as pop surrealism, describes an
alternative movement that emerged in the
late 70s in the United States. Its origins are
linked to pop culture, comics, science f iction,
series B, cartoons, graff iti and video games.
The lowbrow, fruit of all these inf luences, has
become one of the richest artistic movements of
recent decades, crossing borders and reaching
countries like Spain.
The realization of this research has focused
on covering a documentary vacuum around
the lowbrow artistic movement in Spain. The
need arose when observing that most of the
information about this movement was located
on the internet and within underground art
circuits. This lack of academic studies caught
my attention, seeing as necessary and interesting
to carry out an investigation that could serve,
in turn, to other professionals of art and
design. The general methodology has focused
on the search of information sources and the
development of a fundamental follow-up diary
during the investigation; raised from the general
to the particular and ordered by chapters.
This research process has allowed me to
observe the development and projection of
pop surrealism in Spain. I have seen that this
movement is gaining followers every day, thanks
to the work of the new galleries and important
museums that promote it through events
and fairs. I have seen clear evidence that an
amateur audience is being created for collecting,
thanks to the ease of obtaining high quality
reproductions of these works, and that there is
increasing knowledge and interest in this artistic
movement among graphic designers.
