In the last years the interest towards mindfulness has increased widely. Nevertheless, there is little research in the area of education. We do not know much about its possible impact and improvement in this area. This survey analysed the effectiveness of a full emotional intelligence program (PINEP) on students in the sixth grade of primary school. The program links specific emotional intelligence activities with daily practices of meditation in mindfulness. Two groups were selected randomly, creating a control and an experimental group, applying the program intervention to the latter. The variables academic performance, attention, processing speed and mindfulness were studied comparing both groups. The experimental group showed improvements in processing speed and mindfulness. Their academic performance and attention remained constant. Possible explanations and future lines of research have been discussed.
