In the last decade, television has lived a genuine revolution, as much in
formats as in contents, consumer habits and platforms. In this media,
constantly evolving, the need to be distinct from competition and the
globalization of the audience has led to the creation of high quality products
that very often represent the society and culture of the countries that elaborate
them.
In this paper we would like to take advantage of the opportunities that
television offers in order to train the sociocultural skill (according to the
Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and the
Curriculum Plan of Instituto Cervantes) with students of Spanish in advanced level. We will train the audiovisual skill of our students using the television, as
suggested by CEFR.
From all the audiovisual products that television has to offer, we will
focus on television series, since they are in style and they present fictional
situations that show realistic customs, expressions, attitudes and Spanish
culture. Furthermore, we have focused on El Ministerio del Tiempo, which
presents sociocultural items through different eras and exceptionally blends
the three kinds of culture that we are going to analyse: Culture with capital
letters, culture and kulture with a k.
