Care for students with high cognitive abilities (HCA) is essential to ensure their academic success and overall growth. In the context of the conventional curriculum of Secondary Education these students may not realize their full potential. Extracurricular enrichment (EE) programs provide these students with a greater breadth, depth and diversity of content to learn, while reducing their absence from the classroom to which they correspond by age, a situation that happens with aceleration or non-inclusive approaches. Bioinformatics is a field that has revolutionized the practice of biology but remains absent from the curriculum of Secondary Education. It includes content both from Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Biology and is focused on research, therefore being a good candidate for its use within EE programs. In the present document, the theoretical framework explaining HCA is reviewed and a proposal for an intervention is presented, which is based on bioinformatics tasks and may be incorporated into EE programs. Finally, it is stated the relationship between the contents of this proposal and the conventional curriculum, and guidelines to evaluate the achievement of students and the proposal, for its improvement, are provided.
