Higher education institutions have been permeated by technological progress and thus also the Industrial Revolution 4.0, government policies and external conditions have forced them to transform. It is necessary to elucidate the way of applying digital transformation approaches to the higher education institutions domain as an emerging field that has aroused interest in the recent past, developing an implementation model that allows describing complex relationships between dimensions involved in an educational domain with technological support, which facilitates the understanding and implementation of digital transformation in higher education institutions. In that sense the formulation of an implementation model that facilitates digital transformation in higher education institutions is proposed as a research problem. This paper consolidates the main aspects that drives the dissertation research, it based on the systematic literature review, the problem statement, the research goals and methods, the results to date, and finally some of its expected contributions.
