La dignidad que tiene la persona humana debe ser respetada siempre y más aún por el profesional a cargo de la salud. La familia es, por su relación con la persona, el primer lugar donde se da su cuidado integral. La familia, por su naturaleza, participa de manera activa en el cuidado de la salud de sus miembros, más aún cuando éste se encuentra delicado e ingresado a una unidad de cuidados intensivos (UCI). Una mayor toma de conciencia de la importancia de las familias debe fomentar el diálogo continuo y empático entre el personal sanitario y estas, de forma que, al ser conocidas y atendidas sus necesidades, puedan contribuir más y mejor al bienestar del paciente y de las propias familias, en un proceso que llamamos ¨Familiarizar las UCI¨.
Descripción:
The dignity of the human person must always be respected and even more so by the professional in charge of health. The family is, due to its relationship with the person, the first place where comprehensive care is given. The family, by its nature, actively participates in the health care of its members, especially when the family is frail and admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU). A greater awareness of the importance of families should encourage continuous and empathetic dialogue between health personnel and them, so that, by knowing and attending to their needs, they can contribute more and better to the well-being of the patient and of their own families, in a process that we call ¨Familiarize ICUs¨.
