Suicide is the act by which a person ends his or her own life voluntarily. Its own definition implies an intentional behavior, which is why it is necessary to analyze human behavior, such as the different mental states and / or mood (depression, personality disorders, stress situations associated with family work environments, etc.). that can induce it. Suicide represents a global health problem, both completed suicides and attempts, and even the ideation of it. History has shown the different conceptions of suicide and how it was punished, as well as numerous myths about this fact, which serve to raise awareness of the sensitivity of society to the people who devise, plan and carry it out. The study of suicide and the reasons that underlie the person to commit such an act, have been studied, among others, by psychiatry and legal and forensic medicine. The objective of this work is to know the mortality rates by suicide in Extremadura and to compare its tendency both in the province of Cáceres and in the province of Badajoz during the period 2012-2016, and to check if the available data in the death files of the Institute National Statistics Office (INE) regarding external causes of death by suicide, are similar to those provided by the memories of the Institutes of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences (IMLCF). To do this, we will proceed to analyze both the data provided annually by the INE and the memories of the IMLCF of Cáceres and the IMLCF of Badajoz in the 2012-2016 period, as they are available on the Ministry of Justice website. In the period of time studied, a decreasing trend was observed in the 2012-2015 period in both IMLCF with a lower incidence in mortality rates due to external causes and therefore in medical-legal interventions in violent deaths due to suicide, but a rebound in both IMLCF in 2016. The discrepancy between the data relative to the number of suicide deaths contributed by the IMLCF is shown (a total of 443 of functions: 173 in Cáceres and 270 in Badajoz) and the data provided by the INE (a total of 353 deaths: 141 in Cáceres and 212 in Badajoz) and therefore it is evident that the recovery of data on suicide deaths from forensic sources would improve statistical information, correcting their underreporting and broadening knowledge about the method of suicide. The interest of the publication of the IMLCF memories is eviEstudio comparativo de las muertes violentas de etiología médico-legal suicida en los Institutos de Medicina Legal y Ciencias Forenses de Extremadura durante los años 2012 a 2016 Trabajo de Fin de Grado Ortega Soret, Aroa dent since it facilitates the analysis and interpretation of the data for the adoption of suicide prevention policies.es_ES
