Selective attention is a process in which “an individual chooses one stimulus to attend to and ignores other unimportant ones” (Forn, 2021). The general objective of the study was to analyze selective attention and its relationship with school performance in sixth grade students, Doña Chucha Primary School, period 2023-2024. A non-experimental, cross-sectional, descriptive, correlational quantitative study was carried out. 40 students from the degree were chosen, through non-probabilistic convenience sampling. The instruments used were the R-faces test, to assess the levels of selective attention and to analyze school performance, a review of the students' grade reports was carried out in the areas of Spanish language and mathematics. The results indicate that 40% of the participants presented a high level of selective attention, followed by a medium level with 35% of the participants. The 47.5% presented a level of learning in process, followed by an achieved level, reached by 30% of the participants in mathematics and 32.5% in Spanish language. There is no relationship between selective attention and gender, there are no significant differences between gender and selective attention, there are significant differences between selective attention and performance in mathematics, however, no differences were found between selective attention and performance in the Spanish language. It is concluded that there is a significant relationship of moderate intensity between selective attention and school performance. Most participants presented high levels of selective attention. No relationship was found between selective attention and gender. Significant differences were found between selective attention and performance in mathematics. No differences were found between selective attention and performance in the Spanish language, nor between selective attention and sex.
