dc.descriptionAlejo Carpentier, in The Harp and the Shadow (1979), utilices the pattern of the new historical novel to present an image of Christopher Columbus through which he can express his own vision of the History about the relationships between Europe and Latin America, from the Golden Age to the present time. In order to do this, he uses a homodiegetic narrator -Christopher Columbus himselfwho closely resembles Carpentier, for his erudition, his Baroque style, his extensive knowledge of the history, science and culture of his time, and his irrepressible passion for reading.es_ES
dc.description.abstractAlejo Carpentier, en El arpa y la sombra (1979), utiliza el molde de la nueva novela histórica para ofrecer una imagen de Cristóbal Colón a través de la cual pueda manifestar su propia visión de la historia de las relaciones entre Europa y América Latina desde el Siglo de Oro hasta nuestros días. Para ello, utiliza a un narrador homodiegético —el mismo Cristóbal Colón— que se parece mucho al propio Carpentier, por su erudición, su estilo barroco, sus amplios conocimientos de la historia, la ciencia y la cultura de su tiempo, y su pasión irrefrenable por la lectura.es_ES
