Currently, the diagnosis of dyslexia is detected by indicators associated with literacy,
being around the achievement of this milestone, when difficulties are detected. This
fact stigmatizes these children in the classroom, which considers them as: lazy, less
valid ... This circumstance reports less self-concept to these children with the
consequent emotional states of depression and anxiety. This is why the present study
focuses on variables not influenced by literacy learning, such as coordination and
balance (related to the vestibular system and the cerebellum), as early predictors for
dyslexia. To achieve the objectives, a quasi-experimental design was applied, with a
sample of N=36 children (18 with dyslexia and 18 with normotypic literacy
development), using 4 standardized tests to measure intellectual, emotional, cerebellar
and vestibular performance. The obtained results showed that children with dyslexia
have lower scores in balance and coordination performance tests, as well as higher
scores in anxiety, depression and worthlessness, leaving its intelligence quotient
penalized by the previous variables in relation to the group of non-dyslexics. This study
opens a new research window for diagnosis and early intervention in dyslexia.
