This is a paper presented in the International Congress Economy of Desire (Granada 22-24 June 2018). Following the proposal of the organizers, an analysis is offered of the two terms of the relationship. the departing point is the classical definition of desire according to the holistic vision given by Plato, which has marked the whole history of Western thought. Sociology serves as a mean to understand the current interpretation of "economy" and how it is affecting human lifestyle and our relationships. There is a link between the imposition of the money pattern in Modernity, to the predominion of the "principle of pleasure" (Freud) and the consumerist paradigm. The arrival point of sociologists as Bauman is a concern about human aspiration to love, which demands more than the emotional satisfaction. This is where the Catholic teaching, from John Paul II to Francis, coincides, underlining the difficulties of the materialistic drive of the consumerist way of life. From a philosophical point of view, the proposal is to desire the spiritual goods, intending they are the most specifically human, therefore the ones that plenty fulfill human desires. In several points, and thinking in a proposal open both to believers and non-believers, this teaching can be intended as a return to the platonic theory of desire and love.es_ES
This is a paper presented in the International Congress Economy of Desire (Granada 22-24 June 2018). In it, an analysis is offered of the two terms of the relationship. It departs from the classical definition of desire according to Plato, which has marked the whole history of Western thought; follows analyzing the incidence of economy in the current consumerist lifestyle; and ends establishing a dialogue with the Catholic teachings about anthropology in the last decades. Without questioning technical issues about finance, the point is to understand how can we correct our current paradigm for life, fostering the most specifice human desires, which cannot be found in markets.es_ES
