Comparison of Women's Right Advocacy between Mary Wollstonecraft and Conception Arenal British and Spanish Perspectives

Abstract

Mary Wollstonecraft (1759-1797) and Concepción Arenal (1820-1893) were key figures in the fight for women's rights, each having their impact in different contexts. In A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, Wollstonecraft spoke out against the 18th-century British way of life by advocating for the equal education and independence of women. In 19th-century Spain, Arenal campaigned for social and legal reforms, recommending women's education and participation in public life in La mujer del porvenir and La educación de la mujer. Both believed equality was essential for social justice, but the various routes they took were unlike one another.
