| dc.description.alternative | This chapter examines management ethics as an essential framework for understanding executive responsibility in people management within an environment shaped by the Fourth Industrial Revolution and Artificial Intelligence. Its central thesis asserts that while digital tools enhance operational efficiency and data analytics, they cannot replace the manager's moral judgment or the necessity of holding the human person as the core reference for organizational decisions. Using the pedagogical metaphor of Al-Khwarizmi's parable —where ethics represents the digit "1" that gives actual value to all other "0" attributes such as technical skill or financial performance— the text distinguishes between mere technical efficacy and genuine managerial excellence. Management ethics is analyzed across six key functions: underpinning excellence, sustaining long-term results, leading by example (tone at the top), preventing toxic organizational cultures, recognizing employees as ends in themselves, and providing a compass for digitalization. Furthermore, the chapter advocates for a "humanistic turn" against the risks of the gig economy and workplace automation, emphasizing the primacy of the subjective dimension of work (praxis / human flourishing) over its objective output (poiesis / production). To govern ethical risks such as algorithmic bias, black-box opacity, and invasive digital surveillance in HR, the manager is framed as the architect of the Organizational Moral Structure (OMS). Within this structure, the operationalization of the Human-in-the-loop principle is mandated under the EU AI Act (Regulation UE 2024/1689), ensuring that technology remains a supportive tool for human dignity, fairness, and the organizational common good. | |
