Antecedentes: Actualmente los cuidados paliativos pediátricos son una necesidad en cualquier sistema de salud para la atención de pacientes pediátricos y particularmente en hospitales en donde se atienden niños con cáncer.
Objetivos: Organizar la creación de una Unidad de Cuidados Paliativos Pediátricos para la atención de niños con problemas oncológicos e incidir en la mejoría en la calidad de vida de los pacientes y sus familias.
Diseño: La Unidad de Cuidados Paliativos Pediátricos del Hospital San José se planea que sea una unidad Integrada, cerrada y autónoma. Las fases del proyecto tendrán una duración de 5 años.
Conclusiones: Los Cuidados Paliativos deben ser un componente indispensable del manejo integral del paciente pediátrico con cáncer. Actualmente muy pocos hospitales en México cuentan con servicios de Cuidados Paliativos Pediátricos. No existe un servicio de Cuidados Paliativos Pediátricos en el Norte de México y para el Hospital San José es actualmente una necesidad.

Background: Currently, pediatric palliative care is a necessity in any health system for the attention of pediatric patients and particularly in hospitals where children with cancer are attended.
Objectives: To organize the creation of a Pediatric Palliative Care Unit for the attention of children with oncologic problems and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
Design: The Pediatric Palliative Care Unit of San José Hospital is planned to be an integrated, closed and autonomous unit. The phases of the project will last for 5 years.
Conclusions: Palliative care should be an indispensable component of the integral treatment of pediatric cancer patients. Very few hospitals in Mexico currently have Pediatric Palliative Care services. There is no Pediatric Palliative Care service in Northern of Mexico and for San José Hospital it is currently a necessity.
