La poesía de Benjamín Ramón — intertextualidad y memoria — desde la experiencia vital del Caribe

Benjamín Ramón (n. Colón, 1939 - ) es un poeta nacido en el Caribe de Panamá. Su obra, que
comprende quince poemarios, cinco libros de narrativa y una antología personal, parte de su
experiencia de vida, la observación crítica de la sociedad de su época y la memoria. Su
literatura se caracteriza por la brevedad y la precisión del lenguaje, y es rica en
intertextualidades que incluyen lo filosófico, lo literario, lo lúdico, lo político social y la
exhuberancia caribeña. En su obra reflexiona sobre sucesos históricos y los espacios sociales,
tanto los íntimos como los públicos. En este trabajo, ubicamos al poeta en el contexto
sociohistórico: primero, como parte de la generación poética de la posvanguardia panameña,
y segundo como parte de la Generación del 58 que luchó por diversos ideales en un país
parcialmente ocupado por los Estados Unidos. Luego analizamos su obra desde la polifonía
dialógica y cronotopo de Mijaíl Bajtín, la intertextualidad de Gérard Gennette y la memoria
social-colectiva de Paul Ricoeur, en la relación de aspectos geográficos e históricos que unen
el espacio-tiempo del Caribe a la creación poética, así como la memoria social y colectiva en
los distintos temas o símbolos utilizados por el poeta.

Benjamín Ramón (b. Colón, 1939 - ) is a poet born on the Panamanian Caribe. His work,
which includes fifteen collections of poems, five books of fiction and a personal anthology, is
based on his life experiences, critical observation of the society of his time, and memory. His
literature is characterized by brevity and precision of language, and is rich in intertextualities
that include the philosophical, the literary, the playful, the social-political, and the Caribbean
exuberance. Through his work he reflects on historical events and social spaces, both
intimate and public. In this paper, we place the poet in the socio-historical context: first, as
part of the Post-Avant-Garde poetic generation of Panama, and second, as part of the
Generation of '58 that fought for diverse ideals in a country partially occupied by the United
States. Then we analyze his work from the dialogic polyphony and chronotope of Mijail
Bakhtin, the intertextuality of Gérard Gennette, and the social-collective memory of Paul
Ricoeur, in the relation of geographical and historical aspects that link the space-time of the
Caribbean to the poetic creation, as well as the social and collective memory in the different
themes or symbols used by the poet.
