masterThesisResumen:
This paper aims to address the concept of "open tuning" and its possible use in traditional fretted string instruments. A historical tour through the different tunings used in orchestral string instruments will be approached first, then the topic of "open tuning", its origins and diverse uses will be discussed, followed by the results of a personal research that demonstrates the possible limits of Scordatura that support these instruments. And last, there will be an analysis of several of my own compositions where open tunings are used in vocal, instrumental, audiovisual, electroacoustic and orchestral music.
