Ha contribuido también a ello la apremiante necesidad de reformar los sistemas educativos, de los cuales depende en gran parte el porvenir de las naciones y el rango que han de ocupar en el concierto internacional. He tries to find out the more frequent spelling mistakes among the school boys of the poorest class in Madrid. Compositions written by 36 slow-minded pupils from 12 to 14 years old through the academic course have been studied here. More than a thousand exercises, which include 9940 cacographies, have been also corrected. This study shows that 25 words, which represent only the 1 % of the cacographies, are responsible for more than the fourth part of the whole of mistakes. The words incorrectly written more than once have been twice arranged. They appear in the Annex A listed according to the frequency of errors. In the Annex B they are grouped having account of the traditional scheme of the spelling rules in order to facilitate the teaching of them. After establishing the difference between adolescence and puberty and approximatively fixing their chronological limits, the authoress studies the psychological characters of this most important age. Its typical features —introversion, integration of personality, incorporation into the community, etc.—, are closely analysed as well as the different changing interests which go with the double commotion —physiological and psychological— of this period of transition and the principal problems which pose themselves to the adolescent. All along this article the authoress points out the differences existing in this process between both sexes and emphasizes the importance and the dangers that this second birth of the being has for future personality.
